From Bucharest Airport to Brasov, into the heart of Transylvania
Your transfer from Bucharest Otopeni Airport to Brasov takes you towards Transylvania, usually following the Prahova Valley through Sinaia, Bușteni and Predeal. As you approach the mountains, the changing scenery offers a first glimpse of this part of Romania. Allow approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes to 4 hours for the journey, depending on traffic, the season and the day of the week.
From our experience on this route, Fridays and Saturdays tend to be busier towards Brasov, while Sundays often bring heavier traffic in the opposite direction. At particularly busy times, the journey can take longer. For a transfer from Brasov to Bucharest Airport, choose a pickup time that leaves enough time for the drive, check-in and security before your flight.
At the foot of Mount Tâmpa, surrounded by wooded hills, Brasov combines a historic city setting with easy access to nature. Council Square and the Black Church, one of Romania’s major Gothic landmarks, are good starting points for exploring the old town. Once you have settled into your accommodation, the narrow streets, colourful façades and outdoor cafés invite you to explore on foot, while Mount Tâmpa offers views over the city.
Brasov’s heritage reflects the influence of its Saxon, Romanian and Hungarian communities. The city is also known as Kronstadt in German, Brassó in Hungarian and Corona in historical Latin records. Buildings from different periods, churches and old fortifications give the centre its distinctive character, while restaurants serving traditional food offer a welcome stop after a day of sightseeing.
If you are staying in the old town, your transfer ends at your accommodation or as close as vehicle access allows. You can then start exploring without having to arrange another ride for the final part of your journey. Brasov has peaceful corners to enjoy, even when its central streets become lively at weekends and during holiday periods.
Brasov also makes a convenient base for exploring the surrounding area. Nearby are Poiana Brasov, known for skiing on the slopes of the Postăvaru Massif, the town of Râșnov and Bran Castle, famous for its association with the Dracula story. You can stay in Brasov and explore the area over the following days, or book your transfer directly to the town or resort where you will be staying.
