From Otopeni Airport to Bucharest: your first glimpse of the city
The transfer from Otopeni Airport to Bucharest city centre usually follows the DN1 road through Otopeni and the Băneasa area, passing Băneasa Shopping City.
As you approach the centre, landmarks you may see from the car include the House of the Free Press, Herăstrău Park and the Arch of Triumph. The journey to your hotel offers a first look around the city, while the Arch of Triumph and the elegant buildings along its central boulevards hint at why Bucharest became known as “Little Paris”.
If your route takes you through Victory Square, you will see Victoria Palace, the seat of the Romanian Government, originally built for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This is where Calea Victoriei begins, one of Bucharest’s best-known streets, lined with hotels, museums, historic buildings and cafés. If you have booked a hotel on Calea Victoriei, you can take in some of these sights on the way to your accommodation.
Bucharest is a busy, lively city, with restaurants catering to a wide range of tastes, from traditional Romanian cooking to cuisines from around the world, and a nightlife scene well worth exploring.
For hotels in the Old Town, where some streets are pedestrianised, we drop you off as close to your address as vehicle access allows. This puts you within easy reach of your accommodation and the streets lined with outdoor cafés, restaurants and bars that keep this part of the city lively late into the night.
If you are staying elsewhere in Bucharest, your airport transfer may take the A0 and A3 motorways, bypassing the city centre. We choose the route according to your destination and traffic conditions, so the landmarks you see along the way may vary.
